Debs63 Posted January 16, 2011 Report Posted January 16, 2011 Can anyone help me on cost and locating a diesel pump for R reg Galaxy 1.9tdi.Pump went on it 18 months ago just b4 i bought the car and it had another one fitted. My fuel pipe snapped in half yesterday and RAC chap said it was because of broken diesel pump---broken where it bolts to engine, causing vibration--hence snapped pipe! What are my options??? Possible costs?--pump and labour charges to do. Car in good condition but just lost my job, so need advice as to whether fixing!!Thankyou. Debs. Quote
Mirez Posted January 16, 2011 Report Posted January 16, 2011 Depends on whats broken, it would be very unlucky if it needs another pump - they are normally very reliable. There's a high possibility that when the garage replaced the last one they sheared the retaining bolt off and rather then drill out and tap a new hole they simply bodged a repair (or even left) and hence its now gone. You need to have someone look at it and work out whats actually faulty. Quote
Debs63 Posted January 18, 2011 Author Report Posted January 18, 2011 Thankyou for replying. Have taken some photos to show the local garage as been advised not to drive incase knock timing out. Will keep you all posted! It might help someone else or someone might suggestions for me once find out exactly what problem is. Quote

Debs63 Posted January 18, 2011 Author Report Posted January 18, 2011 Mechanic said about heat on pump but remember hearing him say about cold welding??!! something to do with aluminium anyway! bolt was still in and intact so not sure why the piece has broken. He said there is another bracket behind or under that should hold it firm but not know if prob with that till its taken apart. its just all unexpected due to fact it had pump changed only 18 months ago. Do you know how much a 2nd hand pump would cost roughly??? and anywhere i could get one? i live in shropshire and no one here has got a galaxy in for spares. Noted about cam belt kit--was advised by RAC man to change whole lot.Thankyou for replying--any help really gratefully received. Its a nightmare as a woman trying to get honest trustworthy quotes for jobs on a car. Debs. Quote

Debs. There are quite a few online breakers which will give you a no obligation quote I have used Parts Gateway in the past and had good service.Just fill in a simple form with your part then they will email if they have stock, you then decide if the price is right . http://www.partsgateway.co.uk/ Quote
zorgman Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 (edited) lets get this right first.on pump theres 2 bolts that fasten from pulley side to pump, then on pump side one at lower rear and one at front so thats 4 in total, are we talking about the bolt that you can see at front of pump. the 2 bolts coming from pulley side into pump go into a metal bracket so if only the front one has gone i wouldn't worry about it, if there's any part of the flange left a chunk of 3mm bar with bolt would keep it in place the pump timing cant move due to other bolts and pumps deffo not going anywhere.ive got a pump off a 1z 90hp engine if your totally stuck and need one its no use to me as ive got a afn 110 lump.the pipe you refer to is that the plastic see thru pipe coming from the filter. get a bar see if the pump moves mark position first just in case. where did the pipe break as if pump was moving in any direction you need to tighten bolts up.i doubt that that the pump is moving at all otherwise your timing would move and engine would be knocking brains out if advanced or poor starting if retarded.thinking as i type and if that was my car i wouldnt give it 2 thoughts about 1 bolt as theres your 3 others keeping it in place and its rotary load placed on pump not shear load Edited January 19, 2011 by zorgman Quote
